I love a good cuddle with "my puppy"!*
He is only allowed on the bed when we put an extra sheet over the bed to collect dog hair and dirt. So that happens about once a week-otherwise he is fenced off from the bedroom! When he gets in though, I still have to ban him from my pillow... he would sleep perpendicular to me and with his butt in my face if he had it his way!

@meghanbartley Gagne... like the baseball pitcher? :)

I use inspiration boards (made from Photoshop & Google searches) on my blog. I do not throw too many parties but if you are going for a specific mood I think storyboards help because you can carry it with you when you go to buy the party supplies & decorations! It helps from over spending (if you are like me & gbtoo) when you get excited about all the possibilities.

I would still recommend that book for anyone just starting to cook! It is SO helpful, basic and delicious! It even breaks down a basic Thanksgiving dinner!

I can agree with this: "the conceptual artistic statement has usurped the nativity scene's main purpose" BUT doesn't #2 qualify for that as well then? Don't a lot of other nativities?
Maybe #1 is supposed to represent the simplicity of Christ's birth. Maybe it is supposed to remind us that we shouldn't let all the glitz of Christmas overpower the real reason Christians celebrate that day.
Another example of this kind of religious art is Barnett Newman's Stations of the Cross. It is simply black paint on white canvases. The artist assumes you already know the meaning/title of each station and you are to use the painting as a base for reflection/meditation.

I am using a tablecloth as a tree skirt this year! That way I can re-use it another time as its real purpose! Not every skirt has to be a perfect circle around the tree.

@Mrs.Mack and @discerning

I don't think the 1st one is disrespectful at all. The title says it all:
"Minimalist Nativity"

What's the difference between putting out a wooden Jesus and Mary or putting out pieces of wood that say 'Jesus' and 'Mary'?

I buy a little clay "part of town" every time I go to Cinque Terre, Italy. I have a green door, a street arch and a black & white striped church so far... they are only up to 6x6" and a 1-15 euro each!
Also I started buying water colors (or drawings) from street artists. You can usually bargain & get a good deal! I got 2 for 15 euro in Salzburg, Austria. I love to sketch on trips too... those make fun little pieces of art to hang all together because I usually doodle on scrap paper or the backs of entrance tickets (for instance in Florence's The Academia I sketched one of Michelangelo's unfinished prisoners/slaves... I have seen "David" enough... I lived right across the street form him when I studied abroad!)

And my favorite things to buy from each trip: ornaments! I get to open them up once a year and reminisce about all the places I've been! Unless, they stay out all year like my wooden painted flower from Pittsburgh's Phipp's Conservatory.

I am a Milwaukeean and I would be so excited if Chicago got it! MKE needs a major Public Transportation BOOST! and the transportation update between Chicago, Madison WI & MKE would be fabulous! I can't wait to get an opportunity to go to the 2016 OLYMPICS!

My solution: I found an old computer printer stand that had a covered back, open front and wheels. I store stuff inside on the shelf like TP and cleaning supplies and then roll it in under the sink (it fits perfectly under the pipe) & then I keep stuff on top of it too. Because it's on wheels it is easy to get inside it and because it has a back (that I use as the front) it hides it all very nicely. You could even paint it or cover it with contact paper.
