Beautiful, clean line, lovely black ceiling, open to lots of light from the other room. Not just "beach, but Scandinavian aspects too in the white tile, aluminum hood, frosted glass, metal cabinets. It looks happily germ-free ! One question, is there sufficient light during the evening hours? The lighting seems so minimalist. Daytime seems bright in the kitchen, but what about the hours when light is not coming in from the other room? Sometimes those little lamps make shadows which is annoying when cutting veggies. I guess I would alter the lighting a little, yet keep it in the lovely clean, b&w style that exists.

The pudding was a brilliant idea for dessert ! The plate was very attractive. The basil added the right touch. There is no way hardly to make beans attractive, you have to rely on pure taste to compensate, yet the plate looked quite appetizing. You are so talented ! One note --- church hall ovens ALWAYS take one full hour to an hour-and-a-half to come up to temp. I swear they must use coal oil, no seriously, they are always extremely slow to heat up and can be quite maddening.

I have made this recipe without corn syrup. In fact, the original pecan pie recipe has no corn syrup in it either. Prevalence for corn syrup comes from historic General Foods advertising. This is a yummy recipe that also can be made without baking & eaten on the spot --- with wipeys for the fingers (skip the baking soda and the 250 degrees candy thermometer step; just bring to a boil & simmer for a few minutes, pour, toss, enjoy) .

Hurray for Home-Ec Teachers ! A fading & underestimated group of dedicated teachers. They brought forth some basic oral wisdom about cooking, housekeeping, and other "make your home a castle" tips. My home-ec teacher taught me more useful lifelong information than my geometry teacher.

Much simpler version - simmer 1/2 cup strawberry jam with 1/2 cup water. Poke holes in the cake, pour hot mixture over. Serve refrigerated with whipped cream.

The most beautiful blue is the color of her kitchen cabinet. It's dream blue, deeper than the deep sea blue. It says Dream & Create ! I love it.

The sink is gorgeous. The cabinet colors are definitely hipster masculine. However, drawers above the stove hood ?!? He looks six foot six, and I guess those drawers work for him, but I'd guess others would find those drawers stylishly fun and practically useless.

Sweet potatoes are a staple in the cuisine of many African countries and tribes. They can be boiled just like white potatoes, but usually boiled (whole or chopped) with skins on. Roasted sweet potatoes in American cuisine are an overdone same-old same-old version that begs for butter and underestimates the possibilities with this international food. Sweet potatoes are wonderful in vegetarian stews with or without peanuts, or cooked with pork or chicken. The recipes provided for stews show off the flavor of the sweet potato much better than throwing cheese on them.

Please clarify---oven or broiler. Some stoves have the broiler as a separate unit. Does the steak go in the oven, or under the broiler to cook?

Have you considered that there is too much liquid in this icing recipe and that's why it does not gel up well ? I would suggest reducing the milk to 2/3 cup and reducing the flour to 1/4-cup-less-one-tablespoon. It's a thicker roux, yes, but the proportions may be better to yield a less runny frosting.

Wonderful recipe. Be careful serving fava beans to guests, though. Only serve fava beans to people who have eaten them once before --- because people who are allergic to fava beans die within hours after eating them. Google fava bean allergy and read the facts. Here's some details "Favism, the severe hemolytic anemia, occurs only in susceptible individuals who have inherited a deficiency of an enzyme, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. This genetic trait occurs among people of the Mediterranean region and among black Africans. " Who knew!! Well, now you do.
