Cornstarch seconded. I had an olive oil stain on a leather bag and leaving cornstarch on it for a few days took it right out.

I did also try Dawn prior; it didn't take out the stain, but it might have helped.

Plates. Drinking and wine glasses for everyday use (I see fancier flutes in there). Bowls. Other pans and pots. Plenty! A kitchen really can accumulate stuff.

Or maybe this means they don't have as many cabinets.

We got a pile of simple black pull-knobs from IKEA for our white cabinets.

Simple metal. Actually quite matte in person. They feel cool and smooth when you touch them.

The cabinet knobs when we moved in were disgusting ... plastic painted over many times, grimy, and sticky. I shudder thinking about them.

Ahh, cynics. I think this is a nice idea.

Re: carbon footprint, ziploc bags are also plastic. My city recycles Styrofoam now, although some places give you paper boxes for leftovers now.

Reuse plastic cutlery -- even those intended for single use -- by washing them. These in this post are obviously even sturdier and meant for continual use.

I like many veggies -- steamed, roasted, pickled -- but I get tired eating fresh salads. Eating things leaf by leaf becomes boring and we kept letting boxes of salad go bad. Recently, we discovered I can demolish half a box of spinach if I throw it into a bowl of noodles in hot broth. No more wasting salad. WIN.

Just white. Simple, and I do think food looks more elegant and appetizing on a white background. I know not all shades of white are equal, but it's much easier to buy more pieces that aren't part of your set. I don't like the idea of having to match colours for replacements, and while I enjoy seeing other people's mix-and-match sets, I know my sets like that would always be just un-matched enough to look goofy than delbierate.

I really don't like matte-finished or rough-finished plates. I think flatware scrapes more on them, and they don't feel as polished/clean as a glazed finish.

Don't go with black. The second it chips, it's all you'll see.

Hmmm ... should have double-checked as I knew acidic things aren't great in cast iron ... deglazing it with red wine made it weird and dull. Should not suggest making the sauce in the skillet, I think, or at least remind of the downsides.
