Hey eastcoastal, I think the author was suggesting you take it to an auto shop and have it custom painted. Great idea - has anyone done this? Any water contamination issues?

Love the doorknob/hardware on the laundry door! Where did you find it? Do all of your doors have the exact same knob?

Thanks!

I'm going to be tackling the repair of our media console. I need to hack saw off the back ends of knobs that are too long. Then, I need to reattach the hinges so they function more smoothly. Lastly, I want to switch out one of the Anthropologie knobs for another one (different color/same style) to get a more eclectic look. This task has been waiting for me for, oh, let's say MORE THAN TWO YEARS. Yikes. Pumped to conquer it!

Day 5: Select One Project from Your List to Complete this Month Apartment Therapy January Cure

I'll use the fact that we're moving to our new house in a couple of weeks as an excuse to delay this exercise for a bit, but suffice to say that I think it'll take some working to get the living room set up just right. I'll commit to spending some time sitting quietly to figure it out.

Went with hot pink roses! And while I didn't "do" the floors, I took a first step and purchased a replacement vacuum cleaner to take care of the job later in the week. Outbox got some exercise, too - a bunch of supplies and paper that I've decided I'm going to donate to a friend of mine who's a school teacher. Woot!

Day 3: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Floors, Green Cleaners & Outbox Apartment Therapy January Cure

I think I'll put our flowers on the dining table, since we're having belated Christmas tomorrow with my family. I actually need to buy a new vacuum cleaner, though. Any recommendations?

First things in my outbox will be old clothes, an overly-crazed mixing bowl, a couple of computer accessories from computers long ago, some "overstock" in my crafting area, linens or towels that have run their course, and more of the continually-reducing trohv of family photos. I have so many of our family photos from childhood that it's taking up Rubbermaid boxes. Not cool and definitely not memory invoking. Can't wait to outbox tonight!

Ready to go! We should be closing on our house in the next few weeks, so as soon as we're in I'll go back and catch up. Woop woop!

Whoa - before you go purchasing anything on this page (though a lovely collection, indeed!), please check out minted.com.

I used them this summer for our wedding invitations and they are wonderful to work with, provide luxurious recycled paper as an option (we used it for our invites and loved it), and provide wonderful personalizations to each product they make.

I'm a HUGE paper nerd. Please check it out!

My favorite dish to freeze is Indian Butter Chicken. OMG - it is the best. I throw all of the ingredients into the slowcooker, wake up the next morning and then freeze it into 1 C tupperware dishes. When I'm ready, I pull one out and pack a 1 C tupperware of basmati rice along with it to make the best lunch at any desk in all of D.C.

:-)

Alright - things are going well! On top of a TON of other improvements, I accomplished 1/2 of my original goal - which was to organize and make useful again our 2 closets. Of course, once you start the Cure you end up going in a million different directions - including every room BUT the closets. But, fear not - 50% of the original goal was knocked out over the weekend when I successfully converted a TRUE MESS of an unused back room closet into a BEAUTIFUL linen closet. Which was timely; my mother recently bestowed upon me the INCREDIBLE gift of all of my grandmother's antique linens. Every sort of table cloth, napkin, lace, doiley, and heirloom textile item imaginable. Now, neatly organized in my incredibly new linen closet.

Thanks everyone for the continued encouragement and inspiration!

Alright - I'm going to be bold (obnoxious?) and comment off-topic. My cure is going so well! I installed cafe curtains in the bedroom - which now lets in a world of light. (See it DOES connect to the topic a bit!) I bought a bed frame - and a canopy bed, no less. Really loving that.

I hung the mirror my mother took her bridal pictures in 40 years ago in our entrance hallway, and put up two vintagey coak hooks on the wall next to the mirror - which I'm also loving.

I rearranged the dining room, finally bought the other half of the wine glasses we needed. I actually waited so long the discontinued my pattern...which turned into lemonade (not lemons) because I found exactly the number I needed and HALF off at CB.

Now, I need a "runway" table for the entrance way, and some accessories for the laundry room that the cure inspired me to turn into a convertible-couch guest room. And the pressure is on! Guests are coming in T-3 days.

Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement!

Oh, and I'm a renter. I just decided to spend the $400 (paint, stool, lighting, tools, rugs, etc.), two weekends, and some temporary comfort and go for it, though. No regrets!

Granny Smith green over here, too! It's lovely! I reupholstered an Ikea kitchen stool, stripped and painted all of my cabinets, added new hardware, undercabinet lighting, green & cream toned rugs, and a giant Beatles poster (with the famous green apple image) to top it off. I also tore off some cabinet doors and opted for open shelving. Loooove my bright green kitchen with all of my beautiful white and yellow dishes standing proud in their new open shelving. :-)

Dawn & water mixed well! Well, so long as you don't think that is a "harsh chemical" - which some people might. Dawn is seriously good for tough grease though.

(They weren't joking with that whole Dawn helped save penguins during the oil spill stuff - that really happened.)

Good luck!

Alright - I'd like to cure our storage spaces (three closets), two connected rooms that aren't really being used because they don't have a clear purpose, and a then just make a few furniture swap outs in our bedroom.

I've already set up my party...

I love the Cure, ya'all!

Best wishes to all of you,

Kate

You know, normally I'd be all, "What's with the negativity?," but kmswann is right on the money.

This is easy as pie. And, big box lumber stores cut your wood to size for you - sometimes, while you wait. This is a no-brainer.

Hope that guy makes some money on what really is a nice idea for non-DIYers, but it won't be any of my money.

I love these shelves. I love them for potentially being the solution to my current organizing problem: How to neatly and beautifully display and organize my Wii and all of the components that go with it in my den/office. Anyone out there finding success with this?

Our apartment is bright and friendly with tons of bold primary color and organic-feeling accents.

Thanks!

I'm still reusing all of the satin and doublefaced satin ribbon my friends and family used on my birthday presents in September. Bring on the challenge of figuring out how to use fabric swatches and more ribbon! I'm a crafty lady, though, so maybe non-crafty folks would have more trouble.
