Faith's recipe for Sticky Lemon Rolls is AMAZING. I have made them for several brunches and people are always wowed. It's a wonderful dough recipe, and easily adapted to a cinnamon (non-lemon) version.

Yes! This is on my resolution list too. I find it's just as inspiring to sit down and read the cookbooks as it is to peruse food blogs. Beautiful photos, great stories, and inspiring recipes. So here's to cookbooks in 2013!

This may be a silly question, but I've learned my lesson with bread making (as in, the directions are always super-specific). Do you add the yeast/water mixture at the same time as the oil/egg mixture?

I'm a vegetarian, but I made this tonight for my husband's birthday. It turned out perfectly! Just medium-well and a lovely peppery crust (I had to try it). He said, "best steak ever." So this method is truly fool-proof; I haven't cooked meat in years!

In our house, we are stovetop espresso people. It's reliable (always delicious), doesn't use much energy, and means we don't have a bulky machine taking up valuable counter space. And we don't drink shots of espresso; instead, I make two Americanos each morning (espresso cut with almost-boiling water, to make it more like regular coffee).

I love hosting brunch! I also tend to think about special diets: gluten-free, vegan, lactose intolerant, and kid-friendly being among them. If kids are coming, I like to have a special area just for them (we have a small table with a chalkboard top, perfect for kiddos) and think about little easy party favors to keep them occupied. Here was my plan for a baby shower brunch, complete with plenty of recipes from The Kitchn! http://sustainablediet.blogspot.com/2012/05/baby-shower-brunch-menu.html

Pickled beets! My poor mom spent so much time pickling beets... and I hated them. Even as an open-minded and health-conscious adult eater, I still can't stomach beets in any way/shape/form. Wow. Way to bring back that food memory, Faith. Wonderful post! :)

We (very happily) had a surplus of zucchini... before the squash vine borers decimated our crop. My hands-down favorite recipe from the season was zucchini enchiladas - covered in zucchini salsa verde. Yum! Here's the recipe for zucchini salsa: http://sustainablediet.blogspot.com/2012/05/zucchini-salsa.html

Hmm, that didn't work!

I make an even easier version, on multi-grain tortillas with heirloom tomatoes and fresh garden herbs. Easy, fast, and delicious. LOVE margherita pizzas! http://sustainablediet.blogspot.com/2012/07/feeding-friends-margherita-pizzas.html

I made up a zucchini-filled recipe for Zucchini and Black Bean Enchiladas with Zucchini Salsa Verde. It's delicious—and the zucchini salsa cooks very well. Nobody will guess it's not made from tomatillos!

Lots of zucchini bread, brownies, and more in our kitchen this summer—straight from the garden!

Mmm, I just made peach & tequila popsicles that taste like summer ought to. 1 shot to 1 1/2 cups of fruit juice wound up imparting just enough flavor to make them adults-only; it also gave 'em a really nice not-completely-frozen-but-icy-enough texture.

I'm a Gen Y'er and after years of apartment life and failed container gardening experiments, putting in a raised vegetable garden was one of our first non-critical first-home projects. Now, my husband and I have built a total of seven raised beds in the backyard and our gardens are feeding us (which I chronicle over at Sustainable Diet, sustainable-diet.com).

I think Gens X and Y are coming around; there's a lot to say about the sustainable food movement and backyard/patio/any way you can do it gardening is, I hope, on the rise.

What a lovely post and table. My dad and I just built a table together, from reclaimed pine. Ours also measures 30 by 60 and is just the right amount of cozy. It's where our family gathers for the everyday ritual, for sustenance, for treasured conversation...
