Yup, I pack lunch for my husband and me in those round GlassLock containers. No spill. The glass is fairly thick, so they are a bit heavy. The plus side is they don't break from minor knocking around during commute. Moreover, the glass containers don't retain odor the way plastic ones do after a while.

Pan con tomate, very easy, you can grate the tomatoes in advance and the guests can spread on as much as they want.

I'm a big fan of Ortiz canned and jarred bonito del norte. The packaging always says the tuna is line caught white tuna, I wonder if that falls under the safe to eat category.

Fully baked scones also freeze well. They would take less time to warm up, and the quality isn't too far off from freezing unbaked scones then bake (so in case you bake more scones than you need, you can also freeze the leftover). I often have a batch of sweet scones and a batch of biscuits in the freezer.

This sounds like something my grandma makes pretty often. She uses a steamer to warm to lotus pocket.

I've made this recipe but used lemongrass, lemon and coconut milk instead of lemon and regular milk. The dish smelled amazing when it was cooking and tasted even better,

It's a great flat for sure. But "modest"? I beg to differ. A 2 bedroom, 1 bath flat in this area goes for 2 million quid easily, not accounting for the premium for historic location.

These look great! I was hoping they'd be fabrics I can buy and make things myself, but they are more like finished products. Oh well. :)

One more points against AirBnB and the likes: this type of business leads to people renting and/or buying apartments for the sole purpose of renting them out on AirBnB or similar sites. This does nothing but drives up the already high rents and home prices for the rest of the residents of the city.

I make these semi-often, I love them best stuffed with pickled plums, then stuff with soy sauce stewed seaweed. They make excellent snacks and picnic food.
@Claire: You can season the rice or not, it depends on your taste and the fillings.

I have a bunch of dishes that I can make from scratch within 30 minutes. Most nights by the time I get home it's around &;30 or 8, and both my hubby and I don't like to eat late, so I just concentrate and get dinner on the table as quick as possible. Dishes like chicken marsala, Asian stirfry, pan roasted or broiled fish, pasta with simple sauces all can be done within that time frame.

When I want to have a dish that requires longer cooking time, normally I start the night before, let it cool and put in the fridge, then finish cooking the following night or whenever I want it. Curry, ratatoille, soup, caponata are examples of this category.

What works for me: I usually stick to saute, grill or stirfry, and I tend to buy veggies that need short cooking time (butternut squash and potatoes are for weekend projects). I wash all the herbs except basil right when I come home from the store, and if time is really really short or if I need to spend more time with the main, I'll revert to salad.

@JnJ-NYC: they are called Shuclean Moving Inc (http://www.shucleanmoving.com/). They are green movers, so they pick up old newspapers from Japanese stores around town, reuse moving boxes and bubble wraps, etc.

Last year I moved a 2-BR apartment using a Japanese moving company in Brooklyn. They came the day before moving day, packed up almost everything in boxes custom-built for household things (special boxes for dishes and glassware, special boxes for clothes), and they built custom boxes for my art collection of 50+ framed photographs and paintings. We did the wiping down and cleaning ourselves. On moving day they showed up right on time, moved everything to the new place, unpacked most of the stuff, all in 6 hours. Total cost, less than $2,000, this is probably half of what I would have to pay a normal moving company and probably wouldn't have gotten such good service. So yeah, I'm all for Japanese movers.

My husband and MIL both ordered this fish once in a restaurant, she didn't suffer from any ill effects while my husband had a really bad case of orange poop. We freaked out and thought of liver failure or something like that, but was told it was because of the fish. Never ever again. Even in small portion.

Thank you for sharing this tip, will try this method this weekend. We don't have a lot of flies, but some little moth like thingy sometimes. They provide great entertainment to our cat but not so much to the humans in the house :)

Woah I never thought this was possible. So the chocolate wouldn't just... seep into the sugar or cornstarch?
I will try this at home this weekend. Thanks so much for the tip.
