I teach a South Indian yellow peanut rice called chitranna in my cooking classes. I use 1 cup rice, 2 cups water and a 1/3 teaspoon turmeric in my rice cooker and it comes out perfect every time. You don't need too much turmeric to color the rice. Here's a video recipe for the peanut rice:

I love kala namak. My great aunt introduced me to it and said it's good for digestion. We put it on a lot of Indian dishes, but I've started mixing it into my plain flavored kefir and it's delicious!
