I tend to use up little bits of spices to make a BBQ rub so I don't end up using the new one I bought and leaving nearly empty jars languishing in the back of the cupboard. Here is my BBQ spice recipe;

I like the idea of keeping jars instead of having bags of spice- so much easier to find and organise jars.

I built mine over the space of a weekend with drying and finishing layers of insulation taking another couple of weeks. Mine is a simple cob oven made from a mixture of clay (dug from my garden) and sand. The bricks for the arch are reclaimed and the fire bricks on the base were leftovers from a friends fireplace build. The only thing I purchased was the builders sand to mix with the clay and form the dome shape that the clay mix was built over- my kids now have a cool sandpit with the leftover clay. Once heated up it cooks pizza in about 3 minutes and they are the best tasting pizza's ever! Fancy looking brick ones may look impressive but my simple one from materials I found and re-used works perfectly and was a pleasure to make! You just need a sunny weekend and a few beers to help you along!

No wine holder? No built in bottle opener? Maybe it would work if there was just two of you and you enjoyed stylish tapas picnics in quiet locations. I have two hungry boys that require something way larger than that to keep them happy on a picnic. Maybe if you filled it just with sweets and chocolate?
